WHAT IS HEYWARD GIBBES?
Heyward Gibbes is a middle school in the Richland One school district in Columbia, SC, located approximately 2 miles north of our church on Summerlea Drive. The middle school has a total enrollment of around 250 students, with a high percentage of those being economically disadvantaged.
WHY HEYWARD GIBBES?
Located just under 2 miles from our church, its almost like God placed us here to partner with this school, and it would be wrong for us not to.
Our Plan to Help
Fulfill Student Needs
Our primary focus is to fulfill the basic student needs, from a fall coat drive to a consistent collection of school supplies and travel toiletries.
Improve Attendance
Our next focus will be on trying to improve attendance rates by offering attendance incentives throughout the year.
Robot Club
We will be helping start a competitive robotics club at the school in fall of 2025, as we try to provide opportunities and excitement for advanced learning through fun activities.
Tutoring
The most important question is how we can help these students improve their test scores.... tutoring, clubs, incentives? This is a long-term goal of this partnership. Helping students realize their potential!
HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?
1 Pray
This is a significant task for a church of our size, but we're stepping out in faith, trusting that God will provide what’s needed, in whatever way He sees fit. If nothing else, we ask for your prayers for us, as well as for the students and teachers at Heyward Gibbes.
2 Spread the Word
Continuous improvement is a collective effort. One powerful way you can contribute is by sharing news of our partnership with Heyward Gibbes Middle School. The more awareness we build, the greater our chances of success.

Meeting the needs of the students at Heyward Gibbes will ultimately rely on donations from the community and local businesses in Columbia, whether it's for the fall coat drive, travel toiletries, or school supplies.
